How this calculator works
Fill in your business and client details, add as many line items as the job needs, and watch the invoice update live on the right. Each line's amount is quantity × rate.
The exact order the total is calculated in
Line items are summed into a subtotal first. The discount percentage is then subtracted from that subtotal to get a taxable amount, and only after that is the tax percentage applied — to the discounted amount, not the original subtotal. On a ₹30,000 subtotal with a 10% discount and 18% tax, that's a ₹3,000 discount bringing the taxable amount to ₹27,000, then ₹4,860 of tax on top for a ₹31,860 total. This discount-before-tax order matches how most invoicing software and tax authorities expect it to be calculated — applying tax before the discount would overstate the tax owed.
Export and privacy
Export renders the preview exactly as shown to an image or PDF entirely in your browser, so your invoice details are never sent to a server or stored anywhere. Use the currency selector on this page (not the site-wide one) since an invoice needs to stay in one fixed currency regardless of who's viewing it.
What this tool doesn't handle
There's a single tax rate applied to the whole invoice rather than per-line-item tax rates, and no support for multi-currency line items within one invoice, recurring/subscription billing, or partial payment tracking. For straightforward one-off invoices — freelance work, small businesses, consulting — that single-rate model covers the common case; more complex billing setups need dedicated invoicing or accounting software. If you also need a formal pay slip, the Salary Slip Maker uses the same export approach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my invoice data uploaded anywhere?
No — everything, including the JPG/PDF export, is generated locally in your browser. Your business and client details are never sent to a server.
How is the invoice total calculated?
Each line item's amount is quantity × rate. Those are summed to a subtotal, any discount percentage is subtracted, then the tax percentage is applied to get the final total due.
Can I add unlimited line items?
Yes — use the Add Item button to add as many line items as the invoice needs, and remove any item except the last remaining one.
Is tax calculated before or after the discount?
After. The discount percentage is subtracted from the subtotal first, and tax is applied to that discounted amount — not the original subtotal. This matches how most invoicing software and tax authorities expect it; taxing before the discount would overstate the tax owed.
Can different line items have different tax rates?
No — one tax rate applies to the whole invoice. For invoices needing per-item tax rates, dedicated accounting software is a better fit.
Can I create recurring invoices or track partial payments?
No — this generates a single, standalone invoice document each time. There's no saved history, recurring billing, or payment-tracking feature; each invoice starts fresh.
